Dear Gay:

How beautifully you describe what so many of us have experienced in the sisterhood of Women Transcending Boundaries! We have indeed found many women looking for some way to make personal connections with those of other faiths. As you know it has been quite the journey, and continues to make WTB a safe place for women of all faiths to speak without fear of being judged and valued for her contribution to our knowledge. We are so grateful that Jennifer Crittendon continues to record all our meeting notes so that they are accessible at www.wtb.org for those interested at looking at the scope of topics we have discussed since 2001.

I loved your description of becoming involved in WTB, "you cooked and enjoyed meals with sisters of many faith traditions, was welcomed into homes, established deep friendships, shared joys and sorrows, and planned for a better and more peaceful tomorrow." I think part of the success of WTB is that we engage in activities that most women do. We talk, we cook, we share food, we sew, we think about our families in the context of war, our communities in times of economic hardship, our children and their education. We have found many women and men locally who believe in our work, and that there are sister groups doing the same sort of work such as SARAH and WISDOM that Diana Eck connected us with.

You got it. We are not alone and we do make a difference. We are not a "butterfly theory" demonstrated by helping build a secular school in Pakistan, contributing significantly to Women for Women, and working in literacy. We can connect with women not just in the U.S., but around the world to do the work we know must be done. We are helping women rebuild their lives devasted by war and famine. We are frankly tired of be regulated to picking up the pieces and would like to be on the side of preventing war and famine. As you so beautifully wrote: "The vision that Danya and Betsy held as they reached out to each other over a cup of coffee cotnues to unfold each day, not only here, but elsewhere as the energy of compassion and understanding builds bridges and opens doors that might otherwise have been permanently closed. Woment Transcending Boundaries dispels fears, opens hearts and creates a compelling energy toward co-creating a more peaceful and saner world for all of us."

Thank you Gay - you are a beacon of light of what to do and how to do it, not to mention you just do it. Does NIKE know about you?
