Just wanted to respond to these thoughts from Judy Trautman --

I have had some similar thoughts -- envisioning the wide dispersion of simple "media access" -- probably made feasible by this kind of video kit.

What I was seeing -- was this potential spreading across troubled parts of the world -- like the Mideast. I have been impressed by peace-making groups that bring people together across borders -- like the women of "Beyond Words" -- who held a seminar here in Santa Barbara. They were Palestinian and Israeli, and they had bonded in profound and beautiful (and funny) ways, building the intimate personal channels of relationship that are the foundations of peace.

After I attended their seminar, I began envisioning a wide-spread network, where people could make simple clear videos of their personal lives and situations, and make them available across all borders. Palestinian women -- could film their kitchens, their grandfathers, their gardens, their children, their basic daily experiences -- showing the deep humanity of their lives. Israeli women, on the other side of a physical wall, could do the same. Those connections can leap the wall -- and heal the need for it to be there.

Communications like these -- simple, intimate, deeply human -- can melt the tensions of misunderstanding that divide and wound the world. We need more of these video kits. We need strong network systems to support and coordinate the messages emerging through them....

From Judy Trautman:

We have just begun experimenting with a YouTube Nonprofit Channel. As one of the first 300 subscribers, I received by Fedex a cute little Flip video camcorder. It is amazingly easy to use. Of course, it does not produce Oscar quality documentaries. But it does produce quite reasonable videos for use on YouTube. Pure Digital Technologies has a scheme to help nonprofits and NGOs acquire video kits. It would be fun to turn some young people loose with these to put their creativity to work communicating fresh, new ideas for your nonprofit.

Another digital phenomenon whose potential for attraction and meaningful participation is seemingly boundless is the web-based SECOND LIFE. Google will provide all the info needed. In short, our local Bowling Green State University, has developed a digital virtual campus on Second Life and we would like to help it include a Multifaith Conferenc and Retreat Center. Such could attract thousands from all faiths worldwide who wish to share their faith journeys. We welcome experiences, suggestions and collabotations from others. Perhaps this would become another communications frontier for NAIN.

Judy-

I think you have tapped into one of the many realms of possibility in this new digital age.

I think the challenge is to not just "use" youtube, but to think systematically about how to use it.

Who do we invite to create videos? Who is viewing them? What is the ultimate purpose?

I think this kind of intentionality provides an opportunity to truly reach those who are seeking us and just don't know this.

We hope to add videos to our website via links to the You Tube channel. The channel also permits a payment scheme through Google. It remains to be seen whether our members are tech savvy enough or comfortable enough to actually use the payment method.

We have had some response already to videos.

We are talking about YouTube as well. Thanks for these clues. We're going to follow up in San Francisco.

What kind of results are you hoping for.
