NAIN Connect 2016 – Guadalajara

There are two packages that include NAIN Connect 2016 registration, accommodation, and meals.

 Package #1 Convent – Hermanas Esclavas de Cristo Rey

 EARLY REGISTRATION by March 31 $475 USD after March 31st $500

What is included in my registration fee?

All meals, including breakfast, lunch and supper are included. We begin with supper on Sunday July 10 and end with breakfast on Wednesday July 13th. Three nights’ accommodation, meals and program, including tour transportation.

The Convent

It is hoped that the majority of participants will stay at the convent. The convent has 75 rooms, each with a double bed, small desk and self-contained bathroom with a shower. There are four larger rooms with 2 single beds and a self-contained bathroom. This location is the eco-friendly choice with electricity supplied by solar panels, construction that maximizes ventilation and filtered water supplied minimizing individual plastic bottle waste. The convent is also the venue for the Connect.

Is the convent air conditioned?

There is no air-conditioning in the rooms but it is a very old building that is well ventilated with thick walls and stays quite cool.  On average, temperatures in July are stable, in the low 80s during the day and low 60s at night (F). All meeting spaces have ceiling fans. There are no fans in the rooms. If you think you may need one feel free to bring a small fan. The convent will accept donations of small fans if you feel inclined to leave a fan behind.

Is there WIFI?

WIFI is available but intermittent. Reception is better in the public areas than in the rooms.

Is the convent accessible?

The convent has elevators that provide access to bedrooms and all meeting areas. There are ramps as well.

 Can I drink the tap water?

No. However there is drinking water available in the main hallways from which to refill your bottles.

What if I want to stay and extra day or two?

The convent has rooms available for 500 Mexican pesos per night including meals.

 Package #2

 Hotel Diana

 Early Bird by March 31 $575 USD after March 31 $600

 What is included in my registration fee?

All meals, including breakfast lunch and supper are included. Breakfast will be at the hotel and lunch and supper at the convent. We begin with supper on Sunday July 10 and end with lunch on Wednesday July 13th. Three nights’ accommodation, meals and program, including tour transportation.

 The Hotel

Hotel Diana is about a 10 minute walk from the convent where NAIN Connect 2016 is being held. A total of 20 rooms have been set aside for NAIN – 10 rooms with two double beds and 10 rooms with one king-sized bed. First come first served. Breakfast at the hotel is included in your registration. Lunch and supper will be provided at the Convent.

 If we share a room will it cost less?

No. The cost of the NAIN Connect 2016 is based on a per person calculation.

 Is there air conditioning?

Yes.

Is there WIFI?

Yes it is included in the price.

 Is there a pool and exercise room?

Yes there is a pool, and a small exercise room.

 Can I drink the tap water?

No. Bottled water is provided; the first 2 bottles are free.

 I use a walker. Will I be able to manage the walk from the hotel to the convent?

 Yes it is just 2 blocks away from the convent and it is manageable.

 What if we want to stay extra days at the hotel?

There are rooms available for $885 Mexican Pesos per night including breakfast .Please contact Hotel Plaza Diana to make arrangements.  Program

 The program will give you a taste of interfaith and intercultural work and relationships across North America, with a particular emphasis on Mexico as this will be NAIN’s first visit to Mexico. The theme is “Sacred Space. We will be looking at sacred space in the widest sense possible – our inner sacred space, the space we create together in relationship, our worship spaces, holy places, the land and the earth and the universe as sacred.

We are excited to take part in a Conference that will be uniquely Mexican. The agenda will be more relaxed with ample time for community building, networking and rest.

The program has not yet been finalized but will include noted speakers, multi faith and bilingual panels on a variety of topics related to the theme, tours, workshops and round tables.

Will there be interpretation?

Yes. Professional interpretation from Spanish to English and from English to Spanish will be provided by students and faculty from Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara for all plenaries, panels, workshops and tours .Each participant will be issued a listening device in order to hear the interpreters.

Round tables and small groups will connect more informally.

How can I get involved?

  1. Please check the Call for Proposals. We are looking for people who might participate in 6 different panel discussions for which the topics have already been chosen. There are also a number of open panels for which the topics have not yet been chosen.
  1. We are also seeking proposals for 12 workshops. Our hope is that the workshops will be participatory and involve activities as well as conversation. Please note that the deadline for proposals is March 31.
  1. Are you bilingual (English and Spanish)? Would you be willing to help out on an informal basis in small groups? If so, please indicate on the registration form.
  1. You are welcome to bring material that promotes your organization. If you wish to sell particular items we will continue to observe the NAIN policy of 10% of the sales going to the hosting group. If you wish to bring a display please indicate on the registration form.
  1. Come to participate with an open heart and open mind. This is our first opportunity to really get to know our fellow interfaith activists in Mexico.

 Air Travel

 An airline representative is exploring flight options. If you would like to be part of a package deal, we need to know your intended date of arrival and departure by May 1st. We believe we can get a better deal as a group. It is possible to fly direct to Guadalajara or to fly to Puerto Vallarta and take 4-5 hour bus ride to Guadalajara. (Very luxurious buses!)
