Restoring Dignity, an intitiative of Religions for Peace

Restoring Dignity is a global initiative engaged by Religions for Peace to introduce the issue of violence against women as a fundamental challenge of peace making.

Religions for Peace launched the Restoring Dignity Initiative to introduce the issues of violence against women as a fundamental challenge of peace making.

Why?

The world’s major faith traditions – each in its own way – uphold the inviolable dignity of the human being as rooted in the Sacred. Yet, the inalienable dignity  of women and girls continues to be violated today in our communities causing grave and unconscionable physical, psychological and spiritual suffering to women and girls.

How?

While respecting religious differences, the Restoring Dignity Initiative is aligning faith communities around their shared concerns to end violence against women. The initiative draws on the commitment and resources of faith congregations, institutions, and communities of believers of diverse faith traditionsBaha’i, Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Jain, Jewish, Muslim, Sikh, Shinto, Taoist, Zoroastrian, and Indigenousto bring an end to violence against women.

Goals & Objective

The goal of the initiative is to engage faith based organizations, religious leaders, communities and individuals of faith for common action to end violence against women through:

Awareness: Increasing awareness on violence against women and girls and the need

to address it.

Education: Deepening understanding on the different forms of violence against women & share knowledge on the religious & spiritual teachings & principles to end it.

Advocacy: Joining voices with survivors, to advocate for  prevention, legal accountability  and protection for women and girls.

Religions for Peace is the world’s largest and most representative multi-religious coalition advancing common action for peace since 1970. The Religions for Peace network consists of the Global Women of Faith Network, and the Global Youth Network, a
